Walk for Nepal!

We're delighted to announce a brand new event for 2021 - a guided walk in the Lake District, in partnership with our friends at Due North Events.

We'd like to invite you to join us for a morning of walking in the beautiful countryside, beginning at Lowther Castle, following the river and then on to the Askham Fell to take in views of Ullswater. We'll also be visiting 'The Cock Pit', a Bronze Age stone circle aged between 3500 and 5000 years old! You'll be walking with professional guides from Due North Events, and a couple of people from Community Action Nepal.

The whole trip is about 8 miles, takes approximately four hours, and will be easy-to-moderate in terms of difficulty.

This will be a fantastic opportunity to get out and about amongst friends, to chat about all things 'CAN', to learn more about the area - and to help us raise vital funds to keep our work going on the ground in Nepal.

The walk will take place at 10:00 on Saturday 24th July, 2021.

Full details are at the end of this message.

Prices to join us on this special walk are £25, which includes the cost of our professional guide/s and a donation to CAN. If you'd like to join us, but the cost is inhibitive, please drop me a message. We'd be happy to try and sort something out for you, if we have any spaces left. Numbers are limited for safety reasons, and to give you a more personal experience with our guides during your time on the hills.

To purchase your ticket to this fantastic day, please send your payment of £25 to us via BACS at: Community Action Nepal Bank Name: Cumberland Building Society Sort Code: 16-52-21 Account no: 54157518 or by cheque to: CAN, Stewart Hill Cottage, Hesket Newmarket, Wigton, Cumbria CA7 8HX or email me for more options at jonmaguire@canepal.org.uk

13km walk from the grounds of Lowther Castle, along the River Lowther to Helton. The first 2km is on flat stone tracks, then a gradual climb up to Askham Fell through farm fields. Once we reach the fell, at approximately 5.5km the route starts to flatten out again as we head to The Cockpit, A bronze age Stone Circle aged between 3500-5000 years old. This is a nice place to sit and eat lunch weather permitting.

From the Stone Circle we climb slightly from 320m to 370m to reach Heughscar Hill with stunning views across Ullswater, with the Northern Fells such a Blencathra and Carrock Fell in view, and the Eastern Fells, Helvellyn, St Sunday and Fairfield at the far end of the lake. From Heughscar Hill we take the gentle down hill bridal way back to Askham. There are 2 pubs in Askham as well as Askham Hall Cafe and Lowther Castle Cafe.

Once we have the final numbers, we will book us all into a pub for drink to finish the day off.
