COVID-19 CRISIS APPEAL

The Covid-19 situation in Nepal has now become a national emergency. CAN are committed to continuing the vital support needed by the vulnerable remote communities in the North Gorkha region of the Himalaya. We are now launching a Covid Crisis Appeal to provide them with the extra resources needed at this time.

In May 2021, the COVID-19 situation in Nepal took a significant turn for the worse, fuelled by deadly new variants of the virus. Record number of cases and Covid-19 related deaths are being reported each day, most of the country has been placed in a full lock-down, and all domestic and international flights have been suspended

NATIONAL EMERGENCY

The limited health infrastructure in Nepal will most certainly struggle to cope with this unprecedented demand.

There are currently only fifteen hundred ICU beds in Nepal and only six hundred ventilators are available, for a population of around thirty million.

THE STATS

Until now, the impact of COVID-19 on the North Gorkha region has been less than predicted.

This is in part because of the support the CAN Nepal team has been able to deliver on the ground during these incredibly difficult times.

We couldn’t have helped those communities without you, our committed and caring supporters, and we now need your help now more than ever.

NORTH GORKHA

  1. Prevent, contain and treat COVID-19 in the most vulnerable communities by continuing to provide excellent curative and preventative healthcare via the CAN Nurses

  2. Provide extra training where needed to our frontline staff

  3. Ensure that adequate provisions are available, including PPE, alcohol gels, thermo-scanners, and oximeters and emergency medicines, as well as helping to facilitate self-isolation where needed.

  4. Continue the delivery of our agricultural support work, to help the communities plant and grow healthy food

  5. Allocate financial aid where needed to the porters, to help support them and their families during the closed tourist seasons.

WITH YOUR HELP, WE WILL:
