CAN Projects Sindhupalchok District - Melamchigyang Melamchigaun is situated in the Sindhupalchok district, approximately two days travelling from Kathmandu. The village is beautiful, sited on a level shelf below dense forest, looking out over the whole of the Melamchi basin. CAN has supported and improved the school; it now consists of 10 classes catering for the education of 95 children. A new hostel building is planned to replace the temporary one. The Headmaster, Mr Purna Gautam, has noticed that the improved educational facilities and the provision of health facilities in the area have helped stem the decline of the region. There has, in fact, been a steady increase in the population since CAN first became involved here in 1998.
