Everyone at CAN has been devastated by the news that a landslide, which swept across the path, overwhelmed three of our nurses as they were travelling from their health posts in North Gorkha en route to Kathmandu for training. The accident happened on Thursday, 22 September.
Tragically, Ranjana Basnet – pictured here in North Gorkha, is presumed dead.
The landslide occured below Philim at Dobhan, with the Budhi Gandaki in full spate.
In spite of the army and Murari’s best efforts in organising a helicopter search and rescue team her body has not yet been recovered.
She was accompanied by two other nurses, Priti Maya Magar and Chet Kumari Magar who were rescued but, as they were both injured, were immediately flown to hospital in Kathmandu for treatment. We understand that today [26 September] Chet has been allowed home.
Doug and CAN Trustees are thinking how best to honour Ranjana’s memory and recognise the wonderful work she has been undertaking at Bihi Health Post. CAN’s AGM and quarterly meeting takes place at the end of this week and Doug will be pursuing the best way this can be achieved.Go Back
