The Catbells Festival of Light for Community Action Nepal – Sat 23rd April

On Saturday 23rd April Lakeland Mountain Guides will host The Catbells Festival of Light for Community Action Nepal.

Keen to get the Nepal Earthquake back in people’s minds One Year On, they’re going for something even more extravagant than Blencathra by Moonlight for Community Action Nepal, which they hosted in June 2015 and raised no less than £5k.

The aim of this evening is to light up the spine of Catbells with individuals at set distances apart, creating an awesome string of head torches. Photographers will wait in strategic locations ready to snap the shot, which will subsequently be sold for the charity. Once this shot has been taken, those that wish to summit Catbells can, and a second photo will be taken of this congregation.

Providing the weather plays ball, it’s set to be a brilliant night, for people of all abilities to come and enjoy!  Grade: easy.  Terrain: good paths, rocky in places.  Duration: 4-5 hours.  Route stats: 5 miles; 400m ascent.  Start location: Cotswold Outdoor Keswick (CA12 5JD) at 7.00 pm.  Parking: plenty.  Nearest towns: Keswick, Cockermouth, Penrith.  Cost: suggested donation of £20 per adult; £10 per child.

The evening will kick off with welcomes, a great Raffle (last year raised £1k alone) and then we will make our way through Portinscale to the base of Catbells (a 45 minute walk). As we are aiming to light up the spine of Catbells, there is no requirement for everyone to reach the summit; therefore this event is more inclusive to people of all ages and abilities. If you don’t want to walk far, then you can simply have a spot lower down the mountain.

Please bear in mind the night is likely to be a chilly one so you must come fully equipped, and if you are planning on heading for the summit, you must have the required fitness to do so. This event will once again be managed by a team of instructors / competent hill walkers.  We are asking for a recommended donation of £20 per person Adult, and £10 per child to be made onto the Just Giving Page  in order to participate in this event. This is not a ticketed event, simply make your donation on the above page (or pay cash on the night) and turn up.  As previously stated, the finished picture will be available to order at donation figure yet to be decided. Thanks again for your amazing support, we hope to see you on the night!
