The fundraising event A NIGHT FOR NEPAL on New Year’s Eve was a rocking success.
The event at Rosley Village Hall, near Wigton in North Cumbria was a complete sell out with over 120 guests enjoying a night of live music, dancing, quizzing and dining on a delicious meal cooked by local Chef John Crouch.
Guests came from far and wide…..Perth in Scotland, Yorkshire, Lancashire, County Durham and of course a strong local contingent. This included the famous ‘Mungrisdale Mafia’ (good friends of Trish and Doug Scott) led by Jan and David Huxley, who were instrumental in drinking the bar dry of red wine – forcing the bar staff to bring in more supplies!
Local band RAINBOW SKY featuring CAN volunteers Lynne and David Nightingale had the hall boppin’ to an eclectic mix of sounds from Elvis, The Beatles, The Stones, T. Rex, Bananarama, Lynyrd Skynyrd and many more.
The meal featured a tasty Takari curry, delicious lentil dahl, a potato and cabbage tahl and rice, followed by kela santara kheer – a yummy satsuma and banana yoghurt dish.
The Quiz of the Year 2015 was supposedly just for fun, but competition was intense. The winners enjoyed a prize purportedly from the Nepalese Ambassador ……. a box of Ferrero Roche chocolates!
Raffle prizes were donated by many which added greatly to the fundraising and included quite a few bottles of Scotch Whisky.
The event raised just over £1,500 for CAN’s work in Nepal – from ticket sales, the raffle, sales from the Nepalese Bazaar and donations – a great result. Thank you to all who attended and who made the evening so much fun and so worthwhile.
Of course behind the scenes lots of volunteers helped make the evening possible, so thanks to:
