A devastating earthquake has hit Nepal.
The magnitude-7.8 quake hit about 50 miles northwest of Kathmandu just before noon local time, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The death toll, estimated at over 1,300 by Aljazeera is expected to rise. Homes, temples and buildings have collapsed including many in Kathmandu.
It is the worst earthquake in Nepal in more than 80 years, according to The Associated Press.
As many as 13 people were killed on Everest on Saturday as a massive avalanche – triggered by the earthquake swept through base camp. The avalanche trapped other climbers higher on the mountain.
