The life of Sir Chris Bonington was celebrated on Wednesday 11th February in very special event organised by the Mountain Heritage at the RGS in London.

Sir Chris was joined by friends, fellow climbers and family including Doug Scott, Mike Thompson, Sir Robin Knox Johnson, Dr Charlie Clarke, Jim Fotheringham, John Porter, Paul Ross and his son Rupert Bonington who together span Sir Chris’s sixty-five years on rock, snow and ice.

The event was compered  by Julie Summers, former Chair of MHT and great-niece of 1924 Everest climber, Sandy Irvine. Julie hosted a series of intimate short conversations between each of the  special guests and Sir Chris during which the audience glimpsed behind the scenes of his legendary climbs and also into the man behind the public persona.

Doug was delighted to talk with Sir Chris, who is CAN’s Patron, about their epic climb on The Ogre and give the vote of thanks at the end of the event, after which there was a memorable standing ovation for Sir Chris.
