LECTURE TITLE: ‘Life and Hard Times’
In this stunningly illustrated lecture legendary British climber Doug Scott returns to his roots. He tells of first discovering climbing with the Boy Scouts on crags in the Peak District with the help of his mother’s washing line! Then followed the fascinating paths, people and places which ultimately led Doug to make more than 40 ascents in the Himalya with more than half of them by new routes, including ‘Everest The Hard Way’ on the first ascent of its South West Face in 1975.
Included in this journey are trips to the Hindu Kush of Afghanistan, the Tibesti Mountains of Chad, Big Wall climbing on Yosemite’s El Capitan and Baffin Island’s Mount Asgard and his gripping tale of survival on the Ogre after breaking both legs.
With Doug’s legendary dry humour, his philosophical approach to mountaineering and understanding of mountain people this lecture will appeal to a wide audience from hardened climbers to armchair explorers. Hold on tight…….
