Melamchiguan School pupil graduates as a doctor

Kancha Sherpa, 27, graduated as a doctor from Manchester University earlier this month. Celebrating with him at his degree ceremony was his old Melamchiguan Primary School Headteacher Purna Gautam, who was visiting the UK as part of CAN’s summer event in June.

This was a very proud moment for both and shows the high standard of education provided by CAN’s Melamchiguan School. The quality teaching has led  pupil numbers to rise  from 19 to 260 since 1985, needing many extensions and additions to the school buildings and accommodation hostels.

Kancha’s success was recognised in The Himalayan Times newspaper – click here to see the article and a proud Kancha dressed in cap and gown! He will  is now return to his home village to work as a doctor.

Congratulations to Kancha from all at CAN.
