CAN supporter Jan Petzel sets of to Nepal today to hopefully climb Mount Everest and raise funds for CAN’s Porter Rescue shelter – we wish him well and good luck. Here’s the full story in Jan’s own words:
we are leaving for Nepal Friday evening and I am aiming to reach the summit of Mount Everest this climbing season. I would like to use this endeavour (which has been a dream of mine for many many years) to raise funds to aid the local communities through Community Action Nepal. I have worked with them previously and they do incredible work in and for the local communities by establishing schools, hospitals and shelters for the Sherpa people.
I have chosen a specific project to which the proceeds of all of the fundraising will go: the establishment of a porter centre at the Gokyo Lakes in the Everest region which will provide medical services, weather shelter and a community center for porters who are unfortunately often shamefully neglected by tour operators yet rely on them for employment during climbing and trekking season. You can find more details about this project on their websitehttp://www.canepal.org.uk/a-z-of-can-projects/gokyo-lakes/. Needless to say none of the funds raised will go towards my own expedition.
I would highly appreciate any support you can give to help these people who unfortunately are still some of the poorest on our planet. Just follow the link http://www.justgiving.com/JanEverest
Many thanks for all your support,
