EVEREST THE HARD WAY – 35 Years On Lecture raises over £4,200 for Gokyo Porter Rescue Shelter
On Sunday 5th September CAN hosted a special anniversary lecture celebrating the first British ascent of Everest and the first ascent of its South West Face. Doug Scott and Paul ‘ Tut’ Braithwaite entertained a sell out audience at the Theatre by the Lake, Keswick on the shores of Derwentwater with the story of this legendary expedition led by Sir Chris Bonington.
The evening included a charity auction of mountain prints signed by well known climbers such as Reinhold Messner and Peter Habeler and the sale of Nepalese gifts and clothing to raise further money for the Gokyo Lakes Porter Rescue Shelter.
The Gokyo Lakes shelter, high in the Khumbu, is a much needed shelter in a popular area for trekkers and climbers visiting the Everest area.Go Back
